Procedures

Students are encouraged to meet with a member of the Health Design Certificate Council prior to filing an application and completing a degree plan.

Step One:

Application for the Certificate. Once the student has made the decision to pursue the certificate, they should go back to their original application for graduate school and indicate their choice when asked.  This is necessary for the certificate information to be added to your transcript. The Center also ask that you  complete an Application for the Certificate in Health Systems & Design, attach a copy of your the Degree Plan and bring to the Center to be reviewed by the Certificate Council. The Certificate Council will review the application for compliance with the requirements for content.

Step Two:

Review of the Application. At the time a professional study, professional paper, thesis, or dissertation topic is approved by the Graduate Advisory Committee, the student will provide an abstract and any supporting justification as may be required to the Certificate Council. In the case of doctoral students, dissertation topic approval takes place at the dissertation defense. The qualifying exam should also be presented to the Certificate Council so that the committee can evaluate its relevance prior to further development of the topic. The Certificate Council will review the application for compliance with the requirements for content.

Step Three:

Issuance of the Certificate. When the student has completed the necessary courses to satisfy the degree requirement and has qualified to graduate, the director of the Center will review the certificate application and advise the director of Student Services whether the graduate has successfully fulfilled the certificate requirements.  The director of Student Services will then authorize the granting of the certificate.
