Scholarships

NEW SCHOLARSHIP

Design Research for Active Living (DrAL) scholarships are awarded to graduate students in the College of Architecture with an expressed interest in research and/or evidence-based design related to active living, and with a strong potential to become a leading scholar/professional in this interdisciplinary field. The number and amount of awards may vary each year. 

For the 2014-15 academic year, up to five competitive $1000 scholarships will be awarded. To apply, please submit your complete resume/vitae (2 pages maximum) including your GPAs and a short description of your research interest and its relevance to active living (2 pages recommended), to Chanam Lee (chanam@tamu.edu) by noon on August 23, 2014. Please write “DrAL Scholarship Application” in the email subject line. Applications will be reviewed by a faculty panel from DrAL and Center for Health Systems and Design, and announced by August 30, 2014.

 

Design for Aging ScholarshipA competitive $1000 scholarship inaugurated this year as a result of a generous gift from Assistant Professor and CHSD Associate Director Susan Rodiek, PhD. 

Eligibility: Students in the final year of the Master of Architecture or Master of Landscape Architecture programs who have registered their intention to earn the Healthcare Certificate with CHSD, and whose final project will include some significant aspect related to design for the elderly may submit. 
Submission Requirements: The submission shall include 1) a one-page resume, 2) a one-page description of the final project and its relationship to design for aging, and 3) a one page essay on design for aging. Items 2) & 3) must include relevant citations.
Deadline for Submissions: Submissions must be received in the CHSD office (in Williams 002). The 2007-2008 deadline is Monday, October 15th, 2007.
Selection: Selection of the winning submission will be by the CHSD Council and announcement will be made in the second week of the fall semester.

Design with Evidence ScholarshipA competitive $1000 scholarship inaugurated this year as a result of a generous gift from David Watkins, FAIA, of WHR Architects, Houston & Dallas.

Eligibility: Students in the final year of the Master of Architecture or Master of Landscape Architecture programs who have registered their intention to earn the Healthcare Certificate with CHSD, and whose final project will include some significant aspect in which the design can be described as based upon credible evidence may submit. 
Submission Requirements:The submission shall include 1) a one-page resume, 2) a one-page description of the final project and its evidence-based element(s), and 3) a one page essay on design with evidence. Items 2) & 3) must include relevant citations.
Deadline for Submissions: Submissions must be received in the CHSD office (in Williams 002). The 2007-2008 deadline is Monday, October 15th, 2007.

Mann PrizeThe prize was created in recognition of the 40 years Professor George Mann has given to the establishment of a healthcare design program at Texas A&M University. A competitive $500 prize each semester for the best healthcare-related 3rd or 4th year undergraduate architectural design studio project.

Eligibility: The instructor may nominate up to three candidates from each section of ARCH 305 or 405 (fall), or from ARCH 306 or 406 (spring). 
Selection: Selection of the winning submission will be by the CHSD Council and announcement will be made in the final week of each semester.

Ulrich PrizeThe prize was created in recognition of Professor Roger Ulrich's contribution to the development of research-informed healthcare models in landscape and urban planning. A competitive $500 prize each year for the best healthcare-related 3rd or 4th year undergraduate landscape or urban planning studio project.

Eligibility: The instructor may nominate up to three candidates from each section of LAND 320 or 321, from LAND 420 or 421, or from PLAN 485. 
Selection: Selection of the winning submission will be by the CHSD Council and announcement will be made in the final week of the spring semester.
